TVK Begins Candidate Selection for 2026 Elections

Fan club leaders and candidates who previously won local body elections under the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam banner were among the first group of 50 aspirants interviewed by Thalapathy Vijay Katchi (TVK) president, Vijay, on Tuesday. These interviews are part of the party’s preparations for the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections, signaling the party’s early steps in candidate selection.

Most of the aspirants who met Vijay have been long-time supporters, having worked closely with him and his initiatives for over ten years. Party insiders said that loyalty and long-term involvement in Vijay’s social and political activities are key factors in the selection process. “We are giving priority to those who have consistently supported the party and its programs at the grassroots level,” a senior TVK official said.

The list of candidates interviewed included TVK district secretaries and other key party members. One notable name was ‘ECR Saravanan,’ who is expected to contest from the Sholinganallur constituency. Sources confirmed that the interviews would continue over the next few days, with more aspirants from different districts being called in for assessment.

TVK officials explained that these interviews aim to select candidates not only with political experience but also with a strong connection to local communities. The party hopes that choosing leaders who are familiar with the needs of voters will help strengthen its performance in the upcoming assembly elections.

Political analysts say that Vijay’s growing role in candidate selection shows his increasing influence within TVK and the party’s strategy to leverage his popularity among the masses. “By prioritizing loyalists and proven local leaders, TVK is trying to build a strong foundation for the 2026 elections,” said a political commentator.

The party is expected to announce its official list of candidates closer to the election date. Meanwhile, Vijay continues to engage with local supporters and party workers, reinforcing his presence and influence in Tamil Nadu politics.

This early round of interviews also highlights TVK’s focus on grassroots leadership, as the party looks to field candidates who can connect directly with voters and manage local issues effectively. Many aspirants expressed optimism after meeting Vijay, saying that the process reflects the party’s commitment to fairness and careful selection.
