A Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA has raised a number of demands in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, calling for better office facilities and increased financial support for development work in his constituency.
The demands come after Chief Minister Vijay announced plans to build an integrated Secretariat and Legislative Assembly complex in Chennai, with the proposed project estimated to cost around ₹1,200 crore.
The TVK MLA said that better infrastructure is important for improving the efficiency of government departments and supporting the growing needs of public administration.
Demand for Better Office Facilities
The MLA argued that government representatives and officials need adequate office space to carry out their responsibilities effectively. He said larger and better-equipped offices could help improve coordination between departments and make it easier to handle public-related work.
According to the MLA, modern government offices should have enough space for staff, meetings, record management and other administrative activities. Better facilities could also help officials respond more efficiently to the needs of citizens.
He pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic exposed several weaknesses in existing workspaces and public infrastructure. The experience, he said, showed the importance of having modern facilities that can continue to function during emergencies and other challenging situations.
Focus on Modern Infrastructure
The MLA also stressed the need to upgrade government infrastructure in line with changing technology and administrative requirements. Modern offices could provide better digital facilities, communication systems and working environments for government employees.
He said investments in infrastructure should not only focus on buildings but also include the resources needed to make government services faster and more accessible to the public.
The proposed integrated complex is expected to bring different government functions together in one location. Supporters of the project believe this could improve coordination and reduce the difficulties involved in managing government work across different offices.
More Financial Support for Constituency
Apart from office facilities, the TVK MLA also asked the government to provide additional funds for development programmes in his constituency.
He said more financial resources are needed to address local requirements and improve public infrastructure. These could include improvements to roads, public facilities and other basic services.
The MLA urged the government to give priority to development projects that directly benefit residents. He said adequate funding would allow elected representatives to respond more effectively to local problems and complete important projects on time.
Questions Over ₹1,200-Crore Project
The proposed integrated Secretariat and Legislative Assembly complex has also attracted criticism from some opposition members. They have questioned whether spending around ₹1,200 crore on the project is the right priority at the present time.

The concerns come at a time when the state government is also expected to spend money on several public welfare and development programmes.
