BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — After 11 years as UAB’s athletic director, Mark Ingram is leaving. The university announced his departure on Tuesday as an agreement to “part ways.”
Andy Kennedy, the men’s basketball coach, will serve as interim athletic director while the search for Ingram’s replacement continues.
UAB President Ray L. Watts expressed excitement about the future of athletics and emphasized support for student-athletes, coaches, and fans during this transition.
Ingram became athletic director in 2015 after UAB restarted its football program following a shutdown. During his tenure, he hired Kennedy in 2020 and led the team to join the American Conference. He also brought in Trent Dilfer as football coach, but the Blazers struggled on the field, leading to Dilfer’s dismissal earlier this year.
Ingram reflected on his accomplishments at UAB with pride and gratitude for the relationships built during his time there.
Kennedy has consistently led the basketball team to success, securing at least 20 wins each season and guiding them to two NCAA Tournament appearances.
