UN Chief Calls for Calm in Yemen Conflict

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has urged all parties involved in the conflict in Yemen to remain calm and avoid further violence. He expressed serious concern over rising tensions between the groups involved in the conflict, warning that continued fighting is increasing the suffering of ordinary people.

The conflict in Yemen has created a major humanitarian crisis, affecting millions of people. Many families have faced shortages of food, clean drinking water and medical supplies. Continued violence has also damaged homes and important public facilities, making daily life difficult for civilians.

Guterres specifically raised concerns about attacks by the Houthi group on civilian targets in Saudi Arabia. He warned that attacks on civilian areas could increase tensions across the region and put more innocent lives at risk. Such incidents can also make efforts to achieve peace more difficult.

UN Calls for Dialogue and Peace

The UN Secretary-General called on all sides to stop actions that could worsen the situation. He stressed that military attacks and further escalation would not provide a lasting solution to the conflict. Instead, he urged the parties to engage in dialogue and work towards a peaceful settlement.

Guterres also highlighted the importance of protecting civilians and respecting international law. He emphasised that ordinary people should not have to suffer because of political disagreements or armed conflicts. Humanitarian assistance must also be allowed to reach people who need food, healthcare and other essential services.

International Support Needed to End the Conflict

The United Nations has continued to call for international cooperation to help reduce violence in Yemen and bring stability to the wider region. Diplomatic discussions and cooperation between countries are considered important steps towards ending the conflict.

Guterres urged the international community to support peaceful efforts and encourage the parties to return to negotiations. He stressed that lasting peace would require cooperation, trust and a willingness to resolve disagreements through diplomacy.

The UN chief’s appeal comes amid concerns that continued violence could deepen the humanitarian crisis and create further instability in the Middle East. He called on all parties to exercise restraint, protect civilians and make meaningful efforts to achieve peace.
