UN Security Council Set to Vote on Ceasefire Resolution for Gaza During Ramadan

The UN Security Council is poised to vote on a resolution demanding an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza during the Muslim holy month of Ramzan. This move follows Russia and China’s veto of a US-sponsored resolution aimed at supporting an immediate and sustained cease-fire in the Israeli-Hamas conflict. Backed by the 22-nation Arab Group and put forward by the 10 elected council members, the new resolution seeks to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis and alleviate human suffering in Gaza.

The Arab Group has urged all council members to vote in favor of the resolution to halt bloodshed and preserve lives, emphasizing the urgent need for a ceasefire. If approved, the resolution would provide a temporary pause in fighting during Ramzan, to transition to a permanent and sustainable ceasefire thereafter.
