Unsold fruits in the Koyambedu market are dumped around 8-10 tonnes

In a significant loss for fruit merchants, approximately 8-10 tonnes of fruits, including mangoes and sapota, have gone to waste as they became overripe and unfit for sale or storage. The inability to stock these fruits has resulted in substantial financial losses for the merchants.

Adding to their woes, the daily arrivals of fruits have plummeted by nearly half, causing concerns over supply and availability. The reasons behind this decline in arrivals are yet to be determined but could be attributed to factors such as adverse weather conditions or disruptions in the supply chain.

This situation may impact both consumers and traders, leading to potential price fluctuations in the fruit market. Efforts are needed to address this issue and prevent further wastage of perishable fruits.
