The United States on Monday accused Russia of carrying out a dangerous and unnecessary escalation in its nearly four-year-long war with Ukraine. The accusation comes at a time when the Trump administration is trying to push forward talks aimed at ending the conflict.
Speaking at the United Nations, U.S. Deputy Ambassador Tammy Bruce expressed serious concern over Russia’s recent military actions. She specifically pointed to Russia’s launch of a nuclear-capable Oreshnik ballistic missile last week near Ukraine’s border with Poland, which is a NATO member country.
U.S. officials said such actions increase tensions in the region and pose a serious threat to regional and global security. They warned that using or testing advanced missiles close to NATO borders could lead to dangerous consequences.
The United States said it continues to support diplomatic efforts for peace, but stressed that Russia’s recent moves are making the situation more unstable and harder to resolve through negotiations.
