US Charges Sinaloa Officials in Drug Case

The governor of Sinaloa and nine other current and former Mexican officials have been charged in the United States with serious crimes related to drug trafficking and illegal weapons activities.
According to an indictment made public on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, in New York, U.S. authorities accused these officials of helping large amounts of illegal drugs enter the United States. Prosecutors say the group played a major role in supporting criminal operations that smuggled narcotics across the border.
U.S. federal officials announced the charges through an official news release, saying the case involves allegations of corruption, organized crime, and abuse of political power.
The charges include drug trafficking offences as well as weapons-related crimes. Investigators believe the accused officials may have used their positions to assist criminal organizations and protect illegal activities.
At the time of the announcement, none of the defendants had been arrested or were in U.S. custody.
This case could increase tensions between the United States and Mexico as authorities continue efforts to fight drug cartels, cross-border crime, and public corruption. The indictment also highlights growing concerns over the connection between political figures and organized crime networks.
