Sanju Samson produced an outstanding batting performance in the second T20I against Afghanistan in New Delhi on Tuesday. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter scored 57 runs from just 22 balls, helping India chase down Afghanistan’s target of 160 in only 14.5 overs.
Samson’s aggressive innings gave India a comfortable seven-wicket victory and helped the team take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. His quick scoring also provided India with a strong start during the chase.
Despite Samson’s impressive performance, India captain Shreyas Iyer suggested that some players who have received limited opportunities could be given a chance in the final match.
Iyer did not mention any player by name, but his comments have led to speculation that 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could be considered for the third T20I. The young batter has already attracted attention with his performances in domestic and international cricket.
Vaibhav made his India debut earlier this year against England and has scored 193 runs in six T20I appearances at a high strike rate. He also recently represented East Zone in the Duleep Trophy, where he scored 192 runs across five innings, including a half-century.
With India already having secured the series, the third match could provide an opportunity for the team management to rotate the squad. Giving less-used players some playing time would allow them to gain valuable match experience while also helping the team assess its options.
Iyer highlighted the importance of providing players with opportunities and keeping them ready for future matches. With the series result already decided, India may use the final game to give some members of the squad valuable exposure.
The third and final T20I between India and Afghanistan will be played in New Delhi on Thursday. India will enter the match with the series already in its hands, while Afghanistan will look to finish the series with a win.
