VCK Expands Organisation Across All Assembly Constituencies

The 18-month-long effort to reorganise the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) is almost complete. VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan has expanded the party’s structure by creating 234 district units, with one unit for each Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu.

Appointments for district-level posts in 144 units were made in phases starting in 2024. The remaining 90 district units will be announced by Thirumavalavan on January 3.

Party leaders said this expansion is meant to strengthen the party at the grassroots level and give more members a chance to take up leadership roles.

Over the past 20 years, VCK has steadily grown as an organisation. In the early 2010s, the party had only 32 district units. This number increased to 64 by 2013 as the party slowly expanded across Tamil Nadu.

This steady organisational growth, along with the party’s electoral success, led to VCK being recognised as a state party in January 2025. It has also become an important partner in the DMK-led Secular Progressive Front.
