VCK Support Secures TVK Majority Victory

CHENNAI: The political situation in Tamil Nadu has taken a major turn as Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has announced its support for Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Vijay.
VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan declared “unconditional support” to TVK on Saturday, which has become a crucial development in the government formation process.
TVK, which emerged as the single largest party in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, needed 118 seats in the 234-member Assembly to form the government.
Earlier, TVK had won 107 seats on its own. Later, it received support from Indian National Congress as well as left parties, including Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM).
With their backing, TVK’s total strength increased to 116 seats.
Now, with VCK officially joining the alliance, the numbers have reached the required majority mark of 118 seats.
This development gives TVK a clear path to form the next government in Tamil Nadu, ending days of political uncertainty and negotiations.
Supporters of the alliance have welcomed the decision, saying it brings stability and clarity after a closely contested election.
With the majority now secured, focus is expected to shift toward government formation and announcement of the new leadership structure in the coming days.
