A video at the centre of the sexual abuse investigation involving Tamil Nadu businessman R. Veeramani has been accessed by India Today TV. The footage was initially submitted to the police by Tamil Nadu Congress leader and MP Ranjan Kumar, who said he approached senior police officers after noticing a man in the video who appeared to resemble Veeramani.
According to Kumar, he was shocked after seeing the footage and decided to bring it to the attention of senior police officials. He has said that he requested authorities to question Veeramani and investigate the allegations connected to the video.
Kumar has also alleged that he approached senior officers, including Inspector Mahesh and then Anti-Vice Squad Assistant Commissioner Yasmin. He has claimed that despite providing the footage, no immediate action was taken. These claims are part of the ongoing scrutiny of how the case was initially handled.
The case originally came to light in October 2025 after a pen drive containing video footage allegedly showing the sexual abuse of a minor was handed over to Chennai Police through an NGO. An FIR was subsequently registered against Veeramani.
The initial investigation continued for several months. Police later sought to close the case, citing issues including insufficient evidence, difficulties in identifying the girl seen in the footage, the absence of the original video and a lack of additional corroborating evidence.
However, a Special POCSO Court rejected the closure report and ordered further investigation. The renewed investigation eventually led police to identify the location shown in the footage and trace the survivor. Investigators have since identified other women who police allege were minors when the reported offences took place.
The investigation has now expanded beyond the original video. Police are examining the alleged involvement of other individuals, evidence recovered during searches and financial transactions that investigators are looking into as part of the wider case.
The handling of the earlier investigation is also under scrutiny. Senior police officers involved in the original probe have been summoned as authorities examine whether there were investigative lapses or outside pressure surrounding the earlier closure of the case.
The video has therefore become an important part of the wider investigation. Authorities are examining its contents, how it was obtained, when it was submitted and what actions were taken after it was first brought to the police.
The allegations against Veeramani and others remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings. Investigators will now determine the authenticity and evidentiary value of the material and establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offences.
The case has also raised questions about how complaints involving the sexual abuse of minors are handled and the importance of prompt and thorough investigations when evidence is brought before authorities.
