Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan today said that Aatmanirbharta, or self-reliance, is not just about producing goods in the country. He explained that it also means having the ability to innovate, manufacture, carry out research, and create solutions to challenges using our own knowledge and skills.
He was speaking at the 102nd Convocation ceremony of the University of Delhi. In his address to the students and faculty members, the Vice President urged universities to play a bigger role in nation-building. He said that higher education institutions should become strong centres of research, entrepreneurship, and the promotion of India’s indigenous knowledge systems.
Mr. Radhakrishnan also spoke about the vision of Viksit Bharat, or a developed India. He said this vision stands for inclusive growth where everyone benefits, technological leadership in the world, social harmony among people, environmental sustainability, and transparent and accountable institutions. According to him, these goals can only be achieved through collective effort and strong values.
Congratulating the graduates, he said they are the ones who will shape India in 2047, when the country completes 100 years of independence. He added that the success of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat will depend on their integrity, competence, compassion, and innovative spirit.
The Vice President expressed happiness that more than 50 percent of the graduates and over 70 percent of the gold medallists are women. He described this as a clear sign of the remarkable progress made in women’s education in India over the years.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Radhakrishnan encouraged students to keep their spirit of inquiry alive and remember that learning does not end with a degree. He advised them to continue learning throughout their lives. He also asked them to remain grateful for the opportunities they have received and to stay aware of the responsibilities that come with their education and success.
