Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay has moved his next public event
to Puducherry after Tamil Nadu police refused permission for a public meeting in
Salem. TVK members have asked the Puducherry police for permission to hold a
roadshow and a public meeting on December 5. This will be Vijay’s first event
outside Tamil Nadu.
In their letter to the Puducherry DGP, TVK said Vijay will travel by road from
Kalapet through Ajanta Signal, Marapalam, Ariyankuppam, and five other places.
The party has asked for police permission and protection from 9 am to 5 pm.
They have chosen the Uppalam–Sonampalayam Water Tank area for Vijay to speak
to the public using a loudspeaker.
When asked how they plan to avoid a crowd-related incident like the one in Karur,
TVK’s Puducherry functionary K. Puthiyavan said they will deploy about 1,000
volunteers to manage the crowd. He also said TVK has requested police approval
for Vijay to speak at multiple points along the route so that people are spread
out and not gathered in just one place.
