On Sunday, Virat Kohli made cricket history by equaling Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most One-day International (ODI) centuries, scoring his 49th ODI hundred in a match against South Africa at the Eden Gardens. Kohli’s unbeaten 101 came off 119 balls and included ten boundaries. Notably, he achieved this milestone in just his 289th ODI, a remarkable 173 matches faster than the legendary Tendulkar, who reached it in his 463rd match.
Additionally, Kohli recently became the second Indian batter, after Tendulkar, to amass 3,000 runs against South Africa in international cricket. With 79 ODI centuries for India, he now stands 21 centuries short of Tendulkar’s world record of 100 centuries. Kohli’s outstanding form continued during the 2023 World Cup, where he ranks as the third-highest run-scorer with 442 runs, featuring four half-centuries and this latest century.
Earlier, he also set a record for the most 1000-run years in ODIs in men’s cricket, surpassing Tendulkar’s previous mark of seven such years.
