VOC Port Records Six Percent Cargo Growth

Madurai: The V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port in Tuticorin has recorded steady growth in cargo handling during the current financial year. From April 2025 to January 2026, the port handled 35.97 million tonnes of cargo. This is a 6% increase compared to the same period last year, when the port handled 33.94 million tonnes.

Port officials said this growth shows improved performance and rising trade activity at the harbour. More ships, better facilities, and faster handling of goods have helped the port increase its cargo volume.

The port also achieved another major milestone in January 2026. It handled 4 million tonnes of cargo in a single month, which is the highest ever in its history. This breaks the previous record of 3.95 million tonnes, which was set in March 2024.

Officials said the record performance was possible because of better planning, upgraded infrastructure, and efficient operations. They added that the port continues to play an important role in supporting exports and imports for Tamil Nadu and other nearby states.

With the steady rise in cargo movement, VOC Port is expected to further strengthen its position as one of the key ports in the country.
