West Bengal Records Historic Election Turnout

West Bengal recorded an exceptionally high voter turnout of 92.65% during the second and final phase of its Assembly election held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

Despite a few isolated incidents of unrest and violence in certain areas, millions of voters turned out in large numbers to cast their ballots.

According to the State’s Chief Electoral Officer, the total voter turnout across both phases of the election has reached nearly 93%. This marks the highest voter participation in any West Bengal Assembly election since India gained Independence.

The second phase of polling covered 142 Assembly constituencies across seven districts in southern West Bengal.

Rural areas showed especially strong participation. Purba Bardhaman recorded the highest turnout at 93.39%.

Other districts also saw impressive voting percentages, including:

South 24 Parganas with 91.45%
Hooghly with 91.41%
North 24 Parganas with 91.39%
Nadia with 91.35%

Election officials praised the strong public response, noting that the high turnout reflects significant voter engagement and enthusiasm.

The record-breaking participation is being viewed as a major democratic milestone for the state, even as authorities continue monitoring security concerns related to election-related violence.

Overall, the election has demonstrated strong public involvement, with West Bengal setting a new benchmark for voter turnout in its post-Independence electoral history.
