Two men accused of killing Bangladeshi political activist Osman Hadi have been arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police. The arrest was confirmed by officials on Sunday (March 8, 2026).
Osman Hadi’s murder had shocked Bangladesh and led to widespread violence in different parts of the country. The activist was reportedly killed in broad daylight, which caused strong reactions from political groups and the public.
According to police officials, the two suspects are Bangladeshi nationals. They have been identified as Rahul, also known as Faisal Karim Masud (37), and Alamgir Hossain (34). Rahul is said to be a resident of Patuakhali, while Alamgir Hossain is from Dhaka.
The two men were arrested from Bongaon, a town located near the India-Bangladesh border in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. Police sources said that the suspects had reportedly entered India and were hiding in the border area when the Special Task Force traced their location.
After receiving intelligence about their presence, the STF carried out a search operation in the area and successfully apprehended both suspects. Officials said the arrests were made as part of efforts to track down people connected with the killing of Osman Hadi.
Police are currently questioning the two men to gather more details about the murder and their activities after the incident. Authorities are also trying to find out whether more people were involved in the crime.
Officials said further legal procedures will follow, and coordination with Bangladeshi authorities may take place as the investigation continues. The arrest is considered an important development in the case, which had created major tension in Bangladesh following the activist’s killing.
