Work Begins on Velachery Foot Overbridge Project

Work has begun to build a new foot overbridge (FOB) on Tambaram–Velachery Road in Velachery to help pedestrians cross the busy road safely. The project is being carried out at a cost of ₹16.14 crore.

As part of the initial work, soil testing has started near the Velachery bus stand on the side of the road that leads towards Tambaram. These tests are being done to check the strength of the ground before construction begins.

The foot overbridge has been a long-pending demand of local residents and daily commuters. The area sees heavy traffic throughout the day, making it difficult and risky for people to cross the road, especially during peak hours.

To make the bridge more convenient for everyone, it will be equipped with elevators and escalators on both sides. This will help elderly people, children, and persons with disabilities use the facility easily.

Once completed, the foot overbridge is expected to improve pedestrian safety, reduce accidents, and make crossing the road faster and more comfortable for the public.
