“ Yi Walk Along” is one of India’s largest and most inclusive walkathons, dedicated to empowering persons with disabilities and neurodivergent individuals. In this unique event, more than 500 persons with disabilities will walk hand-in-hand with allies in a 1:1 symbolic walk with neurotypical participants — showing that as a society, we are all in this together.

The event will also feature inclusive experience zones and interactive stalls, ranging from assistive technologies and inclusive sports to art, music, and therapy-based interventions. More than 1200 participants, representing 15+ special institutions, 12+ premier colleges, corporates, and civic bodies, will join the initiative, supported by over 200 Yi YUVA college volunteers.

Chennai, 24th February 2024: With the aim of supporting India’s commitments towards a cleaner, greener, and healthier tomorrow; and as outlined in UN SDG #12, Sunfeast YiPPee! is creating awareness amongst school children on plastic waste management in line with its Brand mission of creating ‘A Better World’. Through the ‘YiPPee! Better World Programme’, 2.5 lakh school students across 400 schools in Chennai have been educated on plastic waste management practices.

This initiative is designed to bring behavioural change in students across Chennai through on-the-ground awareness programs in schools about plastic waste, its impact on the environment, and strategies to reduce, reuse, and recycle plastic waste. Students were encouraged to collect household plastic waste and to deposit it at designated collection points in schools. The plastic waste collected contributed towards the creation of benches and desks made from recycled plastic. These benches are being deployed in schools that need this infrastructure.

One such school is Rani Meyyammai Girls Higher Secondary School in Chennai, where 100 benches and desks made from upcycled plastic waste have been deployed by YiPPee!. The deployment of these benches and desks was done through an event at the school. This was graced by dignitaries from the Government of Tamil Nadu – Ms. S. Vijaya Lakshmi (District Revenue Officer and Women development Corporation, Govt of Tamil Nadu), Prof. Amutha Santhanam (Director, University of Madras, Guindy Campus). Dr. Bhavna Sharma (Head – Nutrition Science) from ITC was also present at the event. The campaign has been rolled out with NGO partner – Way For Life – in collaboration with Upkriti and Upcyclers.

Phase 2, spanning Years 3-5, follows the successful defense of the second-year paper, wherein students embark on their doctoral dissertation journey. They work closely with faculty advisors and a dedicated committee to refine their research topic, craft a formal proposal, and ultimately defend their dissertation, culminating in the award of the FPM degree.

The Indian Street Premier League (ISPL), India’s pioneering tennis ball T10 cricket tournament to be played inside a stadium, is proud to share that its exclusive media rights for the inaugural season has been bagged by Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI). Under the terms of the agreement, SPNI has secured the broadcast rights and the league’s matches will be broadcasted on both linear television and the OTT platform. The OTT platform Sony LIV will stream the competition on a free-to-all basis, democratizing access to the thrilling cricketing action for audiences nationwide. During his address to the audience, Lokesh Kanagaraj shared his insights: “As a comic book enthusiast since childhood, which has also been a big inspiration for my interest in cinema. While graphic novels are plentiful in English, there is rather lesser options available in Tamil. I’m positive that the younger generation will embrace and enjoy these Tamil graphic novels that were presented here at Comic Con India. A big thanks to Amritharaj Selvaraj and Kaarki for their pioneering efforts in making it happens. Having recently completed the first book, I eagerly anticipated the second edition and glad I’m taking this home today. I’m grateful to be a part of this venture. Superheroes and comic books have always commanded a devoted following, and I am certain that this book will also be warmly welcomed by readers”.

The 2024 debut Con also offered an insightful and fun-filled line-up on its first day, featuring a special session by Crunchyroll. John Layman ignited the Marvel & DC Comic gang to assemble, making the session remarkable. Chennai, 14th February 2024: A homemaker aged 27 years old hailing from Andhra Pradesh’s Ongole District faced a life-threatening situation when she accidentally consumed a weed killer (pesticide) mixed with Fruit juice in Pet bottle. Her children, while playing at home, unknowingly mixed this pesticide with fruit juice. The mother unknowingly consumed the pesticide-mixed fruit juice.

Initially, she had been admitted at a hospital in her hometown. The doctors on duty gave her IV fluids when she complained of shivering, weakness, and abdominal discomfort. After symptomatic support treatment, she was discharged from the hospital that very night. But later complained of difficulty in breathing. Panic-stricken, her husband rushed her to another hospital. It was then revealed upon investigation that she had accidentally consumed fruit juice mixed with a weed killer causing extensive damage to her kidney and liver. She was medically treated to the best of the doctor’s abilities for nearly a month but there was not much improvement her condition.

Since the patient had continuous breathing difficulties, she was placed on ventilator support. Further examinations by doctors revealed that her lungs were severely affected and that was not discovered during initial treatment. Her lungs worsened over time despite medical interventions. With no respite for her and her family, the situation reached a critical point, where they gave up all hope.

The Doctors’ upon realizing their situation reached out to Dr. Govini Balasubramani, Program Director – Thoracic Organ Transplant, Gleneagles Health City Chennai for an opinion. Dr Govini verified the medical reports of the patient and based on the reports he instructed the Doctors to immediately shift to Gleneagles Health City for timely treatment.

“Upon arrival, her carbon dioxide levels were alarmingly high; almost four times higher than what the normal value should be. She was in a near-death situation as it had reached almost 125 which was many times higher than normal. Coupled with very low oxygen levels in the blood she was in worsening respiratory failure. This prompted us to put her on ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) support. Since her lungs showed progressive worsening and fibrosis the option of lung transplant was discussed with the family as the only solution to save her. She was subsequently enlisted into the state organ transplant registry as a cadaveric lung transplant recipient,” said Dr Govini

“Within five days, a transplant alert was received, and a suitable donor lung was identified. The transplant was successfully conducted, leading to the removal of both ECMO and ventilatory support. She is now breathing on her own and will soon be discharged,” added, Dr. Govini Balasubramani.

The organ donor, a recently deceased female with brain hemorrhage-induced brain death, provided a lung that matched the recipient’s needs in terms of size and blood group compatibility. The entire process, from being admitted to Gleneagles Health City Chennai to the successful transplant and recovery, was just ten days.
