Marking World Cancer Day, GEM Hospital today reaffirmed its commitment to advancing cancer care by launching Dr. GEM, an innovative AI++ GEM Intelligence chatbot for cancer, and inaugurating two new patient-focused initiatives—Free cancer screening programmes for pensioners and a Free Second Opinion Consultation for all cancer patients throughout this February. The event was graced by Chief Guest Prof. E. Hemanth Raj, Vice Chairman, Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, who shared valuable insights on the importance of early detection and its proven benefits in improving survival rates and quality of life for cancer patients. Currently, an average of 100 people in every 1 lakh are affected by various types of cancer in India. Among which 35-40% are mainly due to tobacco usage. Emphasizing timely screening, he highlighted how awareness and early intervention remain the most effective tools in the fight against cancer. Rtn. Balakrishnan, President, Rotary Club of Madras Central, attended the programme as Guest of Honour, appreciating GEM Hospital’s efforts in combining community outreach, technology, and compassionate care to address the growing cancer burden.
