Axial Volcano Eruption Possible in 2026

NEW ORLEANS — A year ago, scientists made a bold prediction: Axial volcano,
a submerged volcano near Oregon in the Northern Pacific Ocean, would erupt
before the end of 2025.

That hasn’t happened yet, but it could still erupt in 2026.

Right now, scientists don’t have a reliable way to predict volcanic eruptions,
especially months or years ahead. Last year, they thought they had found a pattern
to predict Axial’s eruption, but it didn’t work. Now, they are looking at the data
again to find more clues.
