Entrepreneurship Education Gains Ground in India

For many years, entrepreneurship in India was seen as something extra, done only after completing formal education. It was not considered a serious career path. However, this view has gradually changed. Over the last 40 years, entrepreneurship education has become more common and mainstream in India, influenced by government policies, new technologies, and changing interests among students.

This change can be seen in institutions that have experienced it closely. When the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) was established in 1983, the focus was mainly on training. They created courses, modules, and short-term programs to teach aspiring entrepreneurs. In the early years, the main goal was to make people aware that entrepreneurship was a real option beyond traditional jobs.

Today, entrepreneurship education in India continues to grow, helping students develop skills, explore business ideas, and pursue startups as a serious career choice.
