The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched its advanced Earth observation satellite, EOS-05, using the GSLV-F17 rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
The launch marks another important achievement for India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) programme. It also highlights ISRO’s growing ability to place advanced satellites into higher orbits for Earth observation and other important applications.
The GSLV-F17 rocket, which stands around 51.7 metres tall, lifted off at 2:55 am after a carefully planned 27.5-hour countdown. The launch took place from the space centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
The rocket was equipped with a 4-metre-diameter protective fairing, which helped protect the satellite during its journey through the atmosphere. After liftoff, the rocket completed its planned flight and successfully placed EOS-05 into its intended Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit.
EOS-05 is an important addition to India’s Earth observation satellite programme. It is India’s first imaging satellite designed to operate from a geosynchronous orbit, making the mission significant for the country’s space and satellite imaging capabilities.
