IPS officer Mavis Tak has created history by becoming the first woman to be posted as an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. She is also reported to be the first woman IPS officer from Pali district in Rajasthan.
Mavis’s journey to the civil services was not easy. She appeared for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination twice but could not clear it. Instead of giving up, she continued preparing and successfully cleared the examination on her third attempt.
She prepared largely through self-study and remained focused despite the challenges she faced during her preparation. Her father, Abdul Karim Tak, played an important role in supporting her education and ambitions. According to reports, he faced criticism and ridicule from some people for encouraging his daughters to pursue higher education.
The UPSC Civil Services Examination is considered one of India’s most competitive examinations. Candidates often spend years preparing for it, dealing with academic pressure, financial difficulties and personal challenges. While some aspirants succeed after multiple attempts, others choose to continue trying or pursue different career opportunities.
Mavis Tak’s journey highlights the importance of persistence, education and family support. Her achievement is expected to inspire many young people, particularly women who are preparing for competitive examinations and public service careers.
