OnePlus, Redmi, Realme Raise Phone Prices

Smartphone companies like OnePlus, Redmi, Nothing, and Realme are planning to increase the prices of their mid-range and flagship phones in India.

The main reason for this price rise is the increasing cost of important parts used in smartphones. Key components like memory chips (DRAM) and storage chips (NAND) have become more expensive and harder to get.

One major reason for this shortage is the fast growth of artificial intelligence (AI). Big tech companies are buying large amounts of RAM and powerful GPU chips for their data centres. This has reduced the supply of chips available for smartphone makers.

Because of this, chip manufacturers are now focusing more on making high-bandwidth memory used for AI systems, instead of regular smartphone parts. This shift has created a global shortage in the mobile industry.

As a result, smartphone companies have started increasing prices in many markets, including India.

For example, OnePlus has already updated the prices of its new phones. The OnePlus 15, which was launched at ₹72,999, now costs ₹77,999 for the base model. The higher 16GB + 512GB version has increased by ₹6,000 and now costs ₹85,999.

In simple terms, because computer chips are getting expensive and in short supply, phone prices are going up.
