Using privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) like federated learning, homomorphic
encryption, and differential privacy is very important for applying the Digital
Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023. This was stated by Vikash Chourasia,
a senior IT Ministry official involved in making the law.
Chourasia compared India’s data protection law to buying a car, saying, “Now we
have to drive the car.” He added that PETs are the main tools needed to put the
DPDP Act into action, and the Ministry plans to work with institutions and
academic groups to do this.
