Seven New Frog-Like Insect Species Found in Uganda

A team of insect experts led by Dr. Alvin Helden from Anglia Ruskin
University (ARU) in Cambridge has discovered seven new species of a
frog-like insect deep inside the rainforests of Uganda. The team spent
days exploring thick, wet forest areas, collecting samples and studying
the tiny creatures living there.
These unusual leafhoppers, which belong to the genus Batracomorphus,
are easy to notice because of their bright green color. They also have big,
bulging eyes and strong back legs that fold under their bodies just like a
frog’s legs. These legs help them jump long distances to escape danger.
Finding seven new species at once is rare and shows how little we still know
about insects living in remote forests. The discovery also highlights the
importance of protecting rainforests, as they may still be home to many
unknown species waiting to be found.
