Utqiagvik, Alaska Sees Last Sunset of 2025
Utqiagvik, Alaska, the northernmost town in the United States, has seen its
last sunset of 2025 as the region enters its Polar Night. During this period,
the Sun will stay below the horizon for 64 days.
Residents won’t see the Sun again until January 22, 2026. This happens
because of the Earth’s tilt and Utqiagvik’s location above the Arctic Circle.
Even without direct sunlight, the town will not be completely dark.
It still gets several hours of faint blue light, called civil twilight,
which provides some natural light during the long winter nights.
