Inspector-General of Police (North Zone) Asra Garg on Tuesday dismissed criticism from opposition parties and others regarding the attack on a young man from Odisha in Tiruttani last week. He said the initial investigation did not find any proof that the attack by four boys was because of the victim’s north Indian identity.
Speaking to the media along with Tiruvallur Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Shukla, Mr. Garg explained that the incident happened after a minor dispute. The victim had questioned the boys about why they were staring at him, which led to the confrontation.
“The attack was not completely because he was from north India,” Mr. Garg clarified. Authorities are continuing the investigation to gather more details about the incident and are ensuring that appropriate action will be taken against the accused.
