Bengaluru Hotel Checks Seize Spoiled Food

The Karnataka Food Safety Department carried out a major inspection drive across hotels in Bengaluru to check whether food businesses were following safety and hygiene rules.

Officials inspected 60 hotels over a period of three days. A total of 30 teams were involved in the operation, allowing authorities to inspect several establishments across different parts of the city.

During the inspections, officials collected 77 food samples for testing. They also found large quantities of meat and vegetables that were considered unsafe or unfit for consumption.

Large Quantity of Unsafe Food Seized

Officials seized around 640 kg of meat during the inspections. They also found and removed approximately 276 kg of rotten vegetables from the inspected hotels.

In addition to meat and vegetables, officials discovered other expired and unsafe food products. These items were removed to prevent them from being served to customers.

The findings raised concerns about food storage and hygiene practices in some hotel kitchens.

Serious Kitchen Violations Found

Several hotels were found to have serious violations of food safety rules. Officials took enforcement action against establishments where unsafe practices were identified.

Food safety teams checked areas such as kitchens, food storage facilities, refrigerators, and other places where food is prepared or stored.

Proper storage is important because meat, vegetables, dairy products, and other perishable foods can become unsafe if they are not kept at the correct temperature or used before their expiry dates.

Food Samples Sent for Testing

The department collected 77 samples during the inspection drive. These samples can be tested to determine whether they meet required food safety standards.

Testing food samples helps authorities identify contamination and other safety problems that may not always be visible during a normal inspection.

Hotels and restaurants are expected to maintain clean kitchens, store food safely, use fresh ingredients, and follow proper hygiene procedures while preparing food.

Focus on Public Health

The inspection drive was carried out to protect customers and improve food safety standards across Bengaluru’s hospitality industry.

Hotels and restaurants serve food to large numbers of people every day. Poor hygiene, expired ingredients, or improper storage can increase the risk of food-related illnesses.

By conducting regular inspections, food safety officials can identify violations and take action against businesses that fail to follow the rules.

More Inspections May Follow

The recent inspections highlight the importance of maintaining proper food safety practices in hotels and restaurants.

Officials are expected to continue monitoring food businesses and take action when serious violations are found. Hotels that fail to follow safety regulations may face further enforcement measures.

The department’s inspection campaign sends a clear message to food businesses in Bengaluru: food safety and hygiene must be treated as a priority to protect customers and maintain public health.
