Brewers’ Brandon Woodruff Injured After Velocity Drop

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff has been placed on the injured list following a drop in his pitching speed during a game. The move was made after he experienced shoulder inflammation.

Woodruff, a two-time All-Star, left Thursday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks early due to reduced velocity. His pitches were significantly slower than usual, with an average fastball speed of 85.4 mph compared to his season average of 92.5 mph. He did not feel injured but described his arm as fatigued.

The Brewers called up right-hander Easton McGee from Triple-A Nashville to fill the roster spot. McGee has pitched one scoreless inning for Milwaukee this season and has a 6.39 ERA in eight games with Nashville.

Woodruff had shoulder surgery after the 2023 season and missed all of 2024. He returned last year, pitching effectively but struggled early this season with his velocity.

This is not Woodruff’s first injury-related setback. In 2023, he dealt with a lat strain that kept him out during the postseason. Despite these challenges, he has remained a key pitcher for Milwaukee and recently accepted a $22 million qualifying offer to stay with the team this season.

Woodruff is 2-1 with a 3.60 ERA in six starts this year. His career with the Brewers continues as he works through another injury hurdle.
