Defence Ministry to Replace Windows with Maya OS for Enhanced Cybersecurity

Amid escalating malware and ransomware threats, the Ministry of Defence is set to replace Windows with a new operating system called Maya across its internet-connected computers. Developed in collaboration with agencies like DRDO, C-DAC, and NIC, the Maya OS is designed to offer an interface and functionalities similar to Windows, ensuring a seamless transition for users.

Initially implemented in Defence Ministry systems, all three services (Army, Navy, and Air Force) are expected to adopt this indigenous software by year-end. Built on Ubuntu, renowned for its security, Maya also features the “Chakravyuh” endpoint protection system, blocking hackers’ access to sensitive data. The initiative is aimed at bolstering the nation’s cybersecurity in response to increasing cyber threats.
