Donald Trump Disqualified from Colorado Presidential Primary Ballot by State Supreme Court

The Colorado Supreme Court, with justices appointed by Democratic governors, has declared former U.S. President Donald Trump ineligible for the 2024 presidential election under the U.S. Constitution’s insurrection clause. In a historic decision, the court used Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to disqualify a presidential candidate for the first time.

The court ruled 4-3 that Trump is disqualified from holding the office of president. The decision is related to Trump’s alleged role in inciting the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. Trump’s attorneys have vowed to appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court, setting the stage for a potential showdown with implications for the 2024 presidential race. The U.S. Supreme Court will decide whether Trump remains on Colorado’s presidential primary ballot.
