Ezequiel Durán has been a big help for the playoff-hopeful Texas Rangers this season. Known as “The Solution,” his nickname started as a joke during winter training in the Dominican Republic but quickly became reality.
Durán has played multiple positions, starting games at six different spots and hitting .276 with 13 home runs and a career-high 63 RBIs. He has been especially important while teammate Josh Jung is injured. Texas is currently trailing the AL West-leading Houston Astros by 1.5 games, but Durán’s performance has kept them in the race.
Manager Skip Schumaker praised Durán for his energy and ability to step up despite injuries. Acquired from the Yankees in 2021, Durán made his major league debut with Texas in 2022 and played a key role in their World Series win last year. His recent four-RBI game, including the winning hit against San Francisco, showed his clutch ability.
Durán’s nickname became more than just a joke when he embraced it after being challenged during spring training. Though he hasn’t caught a game, he even pitched relief and got 10 outs in 11 at-bats last season.
Without Durán’s versatility and strong performance, the Rangers would not be where they are in the playoff race. His impact has been crucial for the team this season.
