Following the fourth meeting between Union Ministers and farmer representatives regarding their demands, the proposed ‘Delhi Chalo’ march by farmers has been put on standby. The government proposed a guarantee on procuring five crops on Minimum Support Price (MSP), which farmers have decided to discuss with domain experts before making a decision.
Sarwan Singh Pandher of Kisan Mazdoor Morcha stated that while the march is on hold for now, discussions are ongoing, and they plan to peacefully start the march on February 21. The meeting, which was described as cordial and positive by Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, saw discussions on various issues, including the proposal for contract-based assured buying on MSP for five crops.
However, concerns about giving a legal guarantee for MSP and the suspension of mobile internet services in Punjab were also raised. Meanwhile, farmers from Punjab continued their protest near the Haryana border, with plans for further demonstrations and protests announced in Punjab and Haryana in support of the farmers’ demands.
