Iran Hesitates Over Talks; Blockade Continues

Iran has not yet decided if it will take part in new peace talks with the United States, which are planned to be held in Pakistan. Iranian officials say they are unsure because of what they describe as “bad faith” and a long history of mistrust between the two countries.

On April 20, 2026, Esmaeil Baqaei, a spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said that no final decision has been made yet. He explained that Iran will think carefully before agreeing to any talks and will make sure that its national interests are protected.

At the same time, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, said that the naval blockade around Iran will continue. He stated that the blockade will remain in place until both sides reach an agreement.

This blockade is being used as pressure to bring Iran to the negotiating table. However, the situation remains tense, and it is still unclear whether Iran will agree to join the talks.
