Virat Kohli has praised the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for revolutionizing women’s cricket in India. He highlighted how the league has improved player standards and attracted large crowds to matches across the country, showing just how much the sport has grown in popularity.
Speaking on a podcast, Kohli noted the visible progress of women’s cricket and credited the WPL for helping young Indian talent develop faster by exposing them to high-pressure games against top international players. He pointed out the increased fan interest, with packed stadiums in cities like Baroda, Navi Mumbai, and Bangalore during the tournament.
Kohli also mentioned the rising skill levels of young players, particularly their confidence and ability to hit big shots. He praised talents like Shafali Verma and Richa Ghosh, noting how their performances have set a higher standard for the game.
The WPL, according to Kohli, has provided Indian players with more frequent opportunities to face elite international opposition in high-stakes matches. This exposure, he said, accelerates player development by challenging them under pressure against top-quality opponents.
Kohli concluded that players emerging from leagues like the WPL and IPL are now better prepared for international cricket, calling them “ready products” due to their improved skills and experience.
