Left Alliance Sweeps JNUSU Polls, Marks Return to Dominance

In a resounding victory, the United Left alliance clinched three out of four posts in the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) elections, while the Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students’ Association (BAPSA) secured one post. The RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) faced defeat across all positions. Dhananjay of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) emerged as the first Dalit student president in two decades, vowing to advocate for inclusivity and improved campus infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Priyanshi Arya, representing BAPSA, secured the general secretary position, focusing on issues like accessibility for students with disabilities and gender-neutral facilities. Despite endorsing BAPSA candidates, the Left alliance and BAPSA maintained separate contestations, with Arya’s victory signaling a collective push for marginalized voices in student governance. This outcome reaffirms JNU’s historical allegiance to Left ideologies while marking a significant moment for underrepresented communities on campus.
