Manipur Extends Deadline to Identify Illegal Myanmar Immigrants in Chandel and Tengnoupal Districts

The Manipur government has extended the deadline for the committee tasked with identifying illegal Myanmar immigrants residing in the state’s Chandel and Tengnoupal districts. The earlier completion timeline of March 31 has been extended to September 30, according to Manipur’s Joint Secretary, Home, Mayengbam Veto Singh.

In an order, Singh stated that IAS officer and Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jha will act as the Chairman of the Committee during the period of leave or absence of fellow Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Chourasia.

The committee has already commenced visiting the districts to monitor the activities related to capturing biometrics of the illegal migrants, including the recently reported 718 fresh cases of individuals who entered the state by crossing the India-Myanmar border illegally.
