Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne is feeling confident and well-prepared as he gears up for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home. He expresses optimism that runs will come if he continues to trust his batting approach.
Labuschagne, who has not scored a century in his last 20 Tests, aims to regain his form during the series. The matches, scheduled in Darwin and Mackay, will see him seek to break a long dry spell. Since scoring a century against England in July 2023, he has accumulated 905 runs across 38 innings but at an average of just 26.61.
Reflecting on his recent struggles, Labuschagne acknowledged that this is the longest break he has had from cricket and admitted he hasn’t had enough time to fully commit to adjustments he wanted to make.
Despite his Test struggles, Labuschagne has performed well in domestic cricket for Queensland, scoring 525 runs at an average of 37.50 with two centuries. However, his recent limited-overs form against Pakistan and Bangladesh has been less impressive, with only one half-century in six innings and a total of 109 runs.
Labuschagne emphasized the importance of staying focused on the process rather than obsessing over runs. He believes that trusting his game and allowing the game to come to him is key to scoring big again.
Australia, currently leading the World Test Championship standings, will face Bangladesh in two Tests: August 13-17 in Darwin and August 22-26 in Mackay.
