Spain’s FIFA World Cup-winning captain Rodri is reportedly leaving Manchester City to join Barcelona. The midfielder is in his final year at the Premier League club, leading to speculation about his future beyond the 2026-27 season.
Barcelona has made progress in their efforts to sign Rodri, with a source confirming that the player has agreed to negotiate with Manchester City. However, there’s no guarantee he’ll join Barcelona yet. Meanwhile, Real Madrid has also shown interest in Rodri as they seek to strengthen their midfield under new manager Jose Mourinho.
Rodri’s agent revealed that the player chose Barcelona over Real Madrid out of respect for Madrid but decided on Barca. Since joining Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2019, Rodri has been a key figure, helping the club win several trophies, including the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
Barcelona is looking to bolster their team due to Frenkie de Jong’s long-term knee injury. Rodri missed most of the 2024-25 season after ACL surgery and struggled with injuries in the following season, starting only 17 games.
