Police Personnel Honored with Kendriya Grihmantri Dakshata Padak

A total of 490 police personnel from different states, Union Territories and central security organisations have been awarded the Kendriya Grihmantri Dakshata Padak on October 31, 2026. The awards were announced on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who is remembered for his important role in bringing together different parts of India after independence. The list of awardees also includes 14 officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The Kendriya Grihmantri Dakshata Padak was introduced by the Ministry of Home Affairs through an official notification on February 1, 2024. The award was created to recognise police officers and other personnel who have shown outstanding performance and dedication in their work. It also aims to encourage high professional standards among police forces and security organisations across the country.

The award recognises the efforts of personnel working in different areas, including police operations, criminal investigations, intelligence activities and forensic science. Officers who perform their duties with exceptional skill, commitment and professionalism are considered for this recognition. The main aim is to appreciate their contributions and motivate others to maintain high standards in public service.

The medal is presented in five different categories. These include Excellence in Operations, Outstanding Service in Investigation, Exceptional Performance, Indomitable Intelligence Work and Meritorious Contributions in Forensic Science. Each category recognises a different area of work that plays an important role in maintaining law and order, protecting national security and supporting criminal investigations.

The award covers personnel from state police departments, Union Territory police forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Central Police Organisations (CPOs). It also recognises the contributions of officers working in specialised departments who support security operations and law enforcement through intelligence and scientific investigation.

The initiative was introduced under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and supported by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. It is intended to encourage police personnel to perform their responsibilities with dedication, honesty and professionalism. The recognition also highlights the importance of their service in protecting citizens and maintaining the country’s security.

The award ceremony is held every year on October 31, the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Patel is widely remembered for his contribution to India’s unity and national integration. By presenting these medals on his birth anniversary, the government aims to recognise the dedication of police personnel and encourage them to continue serving the nation with commitment.
