Proud of Team Effort: CSK Skipper Gaikwad after Loss to SRH

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad praised his team’s performance despite their five-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2026 “Southern Derby” match. He highlighted that CSK remained competitive until the final overs and was proud of the boys’ effort.

Gaikwad acknowledged the challenging pitch, which did not change throughout the game, and noted that CSK missed a few opportunities to capitalize on their chances. Despite the defeat, he felt the team performed well given the limited squad and expressed gratitude for the fans’ support.

Sanju Samson’s consistent performance was a standout for Gaikwad, though he also mentioned the impact of missing key players. He emphasized that every player gave their best in the match.

On SRH’s side, Heinrich Klaasen praised his team’s chase as “brilliant,” despite the difficulties involved. Klaasen, who scored 47 runs off 26 balls, admitted to starting cautiously before shifting gears and noted the challenging conditions at Chennai.

SRH’s batting unit performed well, with Ishan Kishan scoring a top-notch 70 and Klaasen maintaining momentum in the middle overs. CSK had started strong but struggled to finish due to SRH’s effective bowling, led by Pat Cummins.

The match confirmed SRH’s qualification for the playoffs alongside Gujarat Titans, solidifying their position as second or third in the standings ahead of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
