Russia’s ruling United Russia party has secured a large majority in the country’s parliamentary election, winning 57.83% of the vote, according to near-complete results released on September 21, 2026. The result gives the party a strong position in the 450-member State Duma, Russia’s lower house of parliament.
The Central Election Commission said the figure was recorded after more than 95% of votes had been counted. United Russia’s vote share was higher than the 49.8% it received in the previous State Duma election in 2021.
Based on the preliminary seat distribution, United Russia is set to win 355 of the 450 seats in the State Duma. This gives the party a constitutional majority. The Communist Party is set to receive 40 seats, while the Liberal Democratic Party is expected to have 25 seats and New People 20.
The election was held from September 18 to 20 and was the first State Duma election since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. President Vladimir Putin had described the vote as a test of support for the government and its policies during the ongoing conflict.
Official figures put voter turnout at about 59.3%, with more than 111 million people eligible to vote. Russian election officials described the voting process as orderly, while opposition activists and some foreign governments have raised concerns about the political environment and restrictions on opposition groups.
The large majority means United Russia will continue to hold the dominant position in the State Duma. Its 355 seats would allow the party to pass legislation without depending on other parliamentary parties and provide the numbers required for constitutional amendments.
The election results are therefore expected to shape Russia’s legislative agenda during the next parliamentary term. The new State Duma will begin work with United Russia holding a larger parliamentary presence than it had after the 2021 election.
