Chennai: Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has resigned from one of his two assembly seats after winning from both constituencies in the recent elections.
He submitted his resignation from the Thattanchavady constituency on Sunday. The resignation letter was handed over to Puducherry Assembly Secretary J. Dayalane at his residence. By doing this, he has chosen to continue as the representative of only one constituency.
In the election, Rangasamy had contested from both Mangalam and Thattanchavady seats. He won both constituencies with comfortable margins. He secured a victory in Mangalam by around 7,000 votes, while he won Thattanchavady by about 4,500 votes.
Since a person cannot hold two assembly seats at the same time, he decided to keep the Mangalam seat and vacate Thattanchavady. This is a normal procedure followed after winning from multiple constituencies.
His resignation from one seat will lead to a by-election in Thattanchavady in the coming months, where voters will choose a new representative.
The decision marks the beginning of his term as Chief Minister with a single constituency, allowing him to focus on his duties in the Puducherry government.
