Telangana Parcel Scam Victims Lose ₹18.24 Crore Since 2022

Victims of parcel scams in Telangana have collectively lost approximately ₹18.24 crore since 2022, according to officials from the Telangana State Cyber Security Bureau (TSCSB). The cases have surged from 64 in 2022 to 645 in 2023, with 64 cases reported in 2024 so far. Shikha Goel, the Director of TSCSB, highlighted the rise in cyber fraud cases where scammers exploit courier service names such as FedEx, Blue Dart, and DTDC.

The TSCSB, in collaboration with the National Cyber Reporting Portal (NCRP), managed to save ₹4,77,01,679 of the total loss amount. The modus operandi involves scammers posing as officials from Delhi or Mumbai, claiming the victim’s parcel contains contraband, demanding fines, and instructing them to download Skype for a video call.
