TVK Leads Tight Tamil Nadu Race

After nearly seven hours of vote counting in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, early trends show a close political race across the state.
Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is currently leading in 106 out of 234 Assembly constituencies as of 2:45 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance is in second place with leads in 62 seats.
Close behind, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-led alliance is leading in 60 constituencies.
These numbers show a tightly contested election, with TVK maintaining a slight edge over both major established alliances.
Although TVK is ahead at this stage, no party has yet crossed the 118-seat majority mark required to form the government. Counting is still ongoing, and the final outcome will depend on the remaining rounds.
Tamil Nadu continues to closely watch the results as the state moves toward a potentially historic and closely fought electoral verdict.
