The United States is reported to have carried out strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about further military escalation in the Middle East. US officials described the operations as limited and defensive, saying they targeted Iranian missile threats near American assets.
Earlier, Iranian media reported hearing five explosions and observing aircraft flying over Qeshm Island. The reported strikes have increased concerns about security in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a major route for international oil shipments.
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States are continuing. Iran has confirmed that indirect talks with Washington through mediators have become more intense. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said discussions and consultations were ongoing through intermediaries.
US Vice President JD Vance also indicated that progress was being made in negotiations. President Donald Trump suggested that a possible agreement could be reached, saying Iran wanted a deal soon.
In another development, an Indian vessel carrying 14 crew members was reportedly struck by an unidentified object off the coast of Oman. The incident resulted in the death of one crew member, while the remaining crew members were evacuated.
The Indian government is working with Omani authorities to provide assistance to the survivors and arrange for the crew to return home safely.
The reported US strikes on Qeshm Island and the attack on the Indian vessel have added to concerns about the growing conflict in the region. The incidents have raised fears that further military action could affect shipping routes, oil supplies and regional security.
Earlier reports had suggested that the United States might consider military action against Iran after the midterm elections. However, recent statements from both countries have indicated that diplomatic efforts are continuing to find a possible solution.
Despite these negotiations, the latest incidents have created fresh uncertainty about whether tensions between Iran and the United States can be reduced. The coming days are expected to be important for determining the future of diplomatic talks and regional stability.
