Virat Kohli Praises Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana

New Delhi [India], May 16 (ANI): Virat Kohli, a star player for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has praised Indian women cricketers Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues for their outstanding performances in recent major matches. Kohli called Rodrigues’ century against Australia in the World Cup semi-final the “more special” innings compared to Mandhana’s impressive knock.

Speaking on the RCB Podcast, Kohli highlighted Mandhana’s exceptional talent and calmness during her 41-ball 87 against Delhi Capitals in the WPL final. Despite battling a severe flu, she led RCB to their second consecutive title with the highest successful chase in WPL history (204 in 20 overs). Kohli described her as a “gifted, natural timer of the ball” who plays “beautiful cricket shots.”

Reflecting on Mandhana’s performance, Kohli said it was “amazing” but not surprising, given her past achievements. He also praised her ability to perform under pressure while unwell.

Kohli reserved special praise for Rodrigues’ unbeaten 127 against Australia in the World Cup semi-final, where India chased a record 338 with nine balls to spare. Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s partnership of 167 runs was the highest successful chase in Women’s World Cup history.

Kohli described Rodrigues’ innings as “unbelievable” given her previous struggles in the tournament. He noted how she seemed completely focused, ignoring external pressures and playing with exceptional mental strength and resilience. Kohli emphasized that both Mandhana and Rodrigues have raised women’s cricket to new standards through their performances.

While both innings were remarkable, Kohli felt Rodrigues’ World Cup heroics had more emotional value for him. He concluded by expressing pride in both players and their contributions to women’s cricket. (ANI)
